We are often asked to do a lot of altimeters during a Cycling stay, and that is exactly what is possible here! The region offers many faces with beautiful climbs. Where Strava and co still sometimes indicate a percentage of 6% to 7%, here you can make long climbs with gradients of 15% or more! Ideal for enjoying yourself or training for charity rides such as Tour for Life or the Alpe D’huzes.
Can you do altimeters?
YES! We can answer that wholeheartedly positively! The Eifel, as well as the Hunsrück, offers the opportunity to make many altimeters. Our Cycling guests generally make about 4000 altimeters over a distance of about 220km in a 3-day weekend. Unlike other areas in (northern) Europe, the Eifel – Hunsrück region offers the possibility of lots of climbing and descending, a route without altimeters does not exist here (not even along the Moselle).
Can I prepare for the Alps?
Absolutely. Where in the Alps you make a climb of 15 á 20km and about 1500 to 2000 altimeters, here you make climbs of about 6 à 10km with nice steep or gradual ascent. In the Eifel and Hunsrück, but certainly also to get out of the Moselle valley, you make beautiful climbs that give a good preparation for cycling in the Alps or other high mountains.
Ideal for interval training
Regularly professionals come to the Eifel for interval training, this because there are many opportunities for short intensive climbs. The K35, from Höllental to Bad Bertrich, the road to and from Im Eifel Gasthaus, has nice challenges to prepare for. More on the K35 in another blog!
How should I place the Eifel?
The Eifel, especially the Vulkaneifel, where Im Eifel Gasthaus is located, is only 3.5 hours from Utrecht or 3 hours from Antwerp. You can make beautiful routes in the Eifel during a shorter stay. Our guests also often come for a 3-day stay, 3 days in which you cycle every day. In other words you leave the Netherlands in the morning and in the afternoon you already make your first bike ride. Even on the last, departure, day you can still enjoy cycling and still be back home in the evening. The Eifel region where we are located is thus ideal for a few days away, enjoy the tranquility but also just nice cycling.
Short stay, lots of altimeters
An important addition to the above is that you can make a lot of altimeters in 3 to 4 days. From a route with 45km and 900 altimeters to distances of around 120km and some 1900 to 2400 altimeters. Most of our guests thus make between 4000 to 6000 altimeters in a weekend. If you want to take it a little easier, we also have wonderful routes with less altimeters. Something for everyone!
In conclusion
If you’re staying at Im Eifel Gasthaus, then you’re guaranteed beautiful challenging altimeters through enchanting surroundings! We take you to the most beautiful places in the Eifel, Moselle and Hunsrück region!
